Scientific Purpose/Goals: Conduct a geological and geophysical study of the Red Sea, especially the eastern margin; conduct further geological and geophysical studies of the hot brine area, including some geochemical prospecting; and determine if any other hot brine area exists.

Summary of Activity and Data Gathered: Leg 3 of Cruise CHAIN 100 collected piston and gravity cores, seismic profiles, gravity data, magnetics, bathymetry, temperature measurements, and bottom photos. Hathaway will analyze cores using x-ray diffraction.
