Area of Operations: St. Thomas, St. John, Virgin Island Platform, U.S. Virgin Islands, Caribbean Sea, United States, North America, North Atlantic
Dates: September 13, 1977 to October 01, 1977
Chief scientist: Henry Berryhill Chuck Holmes
Objectives: Obtain geologic information in order to map and define sand deposits in the territorial waters of the U.S. Virgin Islands.
Type of Activity: Seismic profiling;
Information to be derived: Morphology;
Summary: The records obtained were good to excellent. The upper 10 feet of the sediment column is blocked by the arrival of the bubble pulse. The surface of the platform is sand and carbonate rock which produces multiple reflections. Because of water depth, at least 100 ms of good record were obtained. Minisparker: 1270 km; Seismic Lines: 1A, 1B, 3-9, 11, 13-23, 24A, 25-35, 37-64, 83-100, 102, 102A, 110-123, and CB; Time Log: #57.
