Area of Operations: Mississippi Fan, Gulf of Mexico, United States, North America, North Atlantic
Dates: May 09, 1981 to May 15, 1981
Chief scientist: Arnold Bouma
Objectives: Collect high-resolution seismics and cores for geologic interpretation of sedimentologic processes in a deep-water fan environment.
Type of Activity: Sampling; Seismic profiling;
Information to be derived: sedimentologic processes in a deep-sea fan environment
Summary: Using several seismic devices, 1070 km of high-resolution seismics and bathymetry were collected over the Mississippi Fan. In addition, four piston cores, four box cores and a grab sample were collected. Navigation was from the integrated system aboard the R/V GYRE. High-resolution seismics (3.5 kHz)/bathymetry (12 kHz): 1070 km; Piston cores: 4; Box cores: 4; Grab sample: 1.
