Other ID: 81-G-14, Leg 2

Status: Completed

Organization(s): USGS, Woods Hole Coastal and Marine Science Center

Funding Program(s):

Principal Investigator(s): Peter Popenoe

Affiliate Investigator(s):

Information Specialist(s):

Data Type(s): Electro-Magnetic: Gravity, Electro-Magnetic: Magnetics, Location-Elevation: Navigation, Seismics: Multichannel, Seismics: Sub Bottom Profiler, Sonar: Single Beam

Scientific Purpose/Goals: Obtain a near-shore high-resolution seismic reflection profile in order to both correlate reflections with onshore wells and aid in the interperetation of data obtained in 1979 and 1980 north and south of Cape Hatteras. Obtain a seismic and magnetic profile over the strong circular magnetic anomaly off Norfolk, VA.

Vehicle(s):

Start Port/Location: Atlantic City, NJ

End Port/Location: Charleston, SC

Start Date: 1981-09-26

End Date: 1981-10-02

Equipment Used: 3.5 kHz, 12 kHz, Multichannel seismics, Marine magnetometer, Gravity meter (wh), Loran-C

Information to be Derived:

Summary of Activity and Data Gathered: 3.5 kHz, multichannel high-resolution reflection, single-channel high-resolution reflection, and magnetometer data collected.

Staff: Robert F. Commeau, Jack Connell, Elizabeth Coward, James E. Dodd, Barry Irwin, David Mason, Gregory Miller, David Nichols, Peter Popenoe
