Funding Program(s):

Principal Investigator(s): Uri Ten Brink

Affiliate Investigator(s): W. Steve Holbrook - WHOI

Information Specialist(s):

Data Type(s): Location-Elevation: Navigation, Seismics: Ocean Bottom Seismometer

Scientific Purpose/Goals: Determine 2-dimensional velocity structure across central California margin near San Francisco and along the bay from an accretionary prism overlying continental crust to normal oceanic crust. Image the lower crust and moho beneath marginal sedimentary pile invisible in multichannel seismic relection lines. Establish extent of subducted oceanic crust under margin. Search for major faults crossing the bay and margin. Augment BASIX marine multichannel dataset and land seismic refraction data to determine whether major faults in the Bay Area connect at depth.
