Information Specialist(s): VeeAnn Cross

Data Type(s): Seismics: Sub Bottom Profiler, Seismics: Sparker, Sonar: Single Beam, Location-Elevation: Navigation, Sonar: Sidescan, Seismics: Boomer, Sampling: Geology

Scientific Purpose/Goals: High-resolution mapping of surface and nearsurface geology in nearshore environment.

Vehicle(s):

Start Port/Location: Norfolk, VA

End Port/Location: Wrightsville Beach, NC

Start Date: 1999-10-07

End Date: 1999-10-27

Equipment Used: Echosounder, Single channel hydrophone, GeoPulse uniboom, Van Veen grab sampler, SIS1000 Sidescan sonar, Sparker , DGPS, SIS1000 Chirp Sonar

Information to be Derived: Sea floor map; Morphology;

Summary of Activity and Data Gathered: Lost much time to bad weather, including Tropical Storm Irene. Weather also forced surveys to be conducted in the lee (south sides) of Capes Hatteras and Lookout, which were not part of the originally-planned survey area.

Staff: VeeAnn Cross, William Danforth, David Foster, Barry Irwin, David Nichols, Thomas O'Brien, Christopher F. Polloni, E. Robert Thieler, Glynn Williams

Affiliate Staff:

Notes: Original Center People field contained: Rob Thieler (PI), Chris Polloni (Watch Leader), Dave Foster (data processing), VeeAnn Cross (data processing), Tom O'Brien (Marine Technology), Dave Nichols (Marine Technology), Barry Irwin (Marine Technology), Glynn Williams (data processing), Bill Danforth (ship mobilization).
Information from Foghorn: SIS-1000 sea floor mapper, GeoPulse boomer, mini-sparker, fathometer, Van Veen grab sampler, DGPS navigation, seismic/sidescan processing/archival system, plotter, geophysical data acquisition van, data processing van;
