Summary Information for Field Activity 2008-004-FA

Area of Operations: Drake Passage, Southern Ocean

Dates: April 18, 2008 to May 25, 2008

Chief scientist: Kathy Scanlon

   Laura Robinson, WHOI

Objectives: Sea floor mapping (using multibeam sonar and deep-towed camera) and sampling (by dredge and trawl) of fossil and live cold-water corals for paleo-oceanographic and ecological studies.

Type of Activity: Sampling; Sea floor mapping; Photography;Sea floor mapping

Information to be derived: Habitat maps
Bathymetric maps

Summary: Multibeam bathymetry was collected continuously. 6 TOWCAM transects completed. 3 CTDs completed. 51 trawls and dredges deployed and rocks, corals, and other animals photographed and preserved. See bound cruise report for more information.
