Other ID: R-24-08-ME

Status: Completed

Organization(s): USGS, Woods Hole Coastal and Marine Science Center

Funding Program(s):

Principal Investigator(s): Walter Barnhardt

Affiliate Investigator(s): Joe Kelley, University of Maine; Laura Brothers, University of Maine

Information Specialist(s): Brian Andrews

Data Type(s): Imagery: Photo, Location-Elevation: Navigation, Seismics: Sub Bottom Profiler, Sonar: Sidescan, Sonar: Sound Velocity, Sonar: Interferometric

Scientific Purpose/Goals: Re-mapping of pockmark field to determine morphological change (if any) and to refine sub-bottom structure.

Vehicle(s):

Start Port/Location: Belfast, ME

End Port/Location: Belfast, ME

Start Date: 2008-09-16

End Date: 2008-09-25

Equipment Used: EdgeTech 424 chirp sub-bottom profiler, Klein 3000, Digital camera, Real Time Kinematic GPS, SEA SWATHplus-M 234 kHz, Sensor - SVP

Information to be Derived:

Summary of Activity and Data Gathered: Seismic reflection system failed after three days due to software problems (SB Logger). Very frustrating. Swath bathymetry and backscatter from sidescan sonar: 8 days of data collection, 340 km of tracklines, water depths 3-90 m; Seismic reflection profiles: 3 days of data collection, 109 km of tracklines; Sound velocity profiles: 15.
