Other ID: none

Status: Completed

Organization(s): USGS, Woods Hole Coastal and Marine Science Center

Funding Program(s):

Principal Investigator(s): Carolyn Ruppel

Affiliate Investigator(s): Benjamin Scandella--MIT

Information Specialist(s): Carolyn Ruppel

Data Type(s): Location-Elevation: Navigation, Sonar: Single Beam, Seismics: Sub Bottom Profiler

Scientific Purpose/Goals: map gas in sediments and water column in vicinity of lake-bottom sonar deployment

Vehicle(s):

Start Port/Location: Winchester Boat Club

End Port/Location: Winchester Boat Club

Start Date: 2011-11-29

End Date: 2011-11-29

Equipment Used: EdgeTech 424 chirp sub-bottom profiler, HYPACK, Humminbird fishfinder

Information to be Derived: Time series data;Sea floor map;

Summary of Activity and Data Gathered: Re-occupied closely spaced Chirp lines collected earlier to determine if any changes in gas charging of sediments or gas emissions from sediments. Crossed sonar deployed on bottom lander several times and imaged it in the Chirp data. Sought to correlate seeps detected by the sonar lander with seeps inferred from fishfinder/Chirp records.
