Summary Information for Field Activity 2013-047-FA

Area of Operations: U.S. Arctic Ocean

Dates: October 05, 2013 to October 30, 2013

Chief scientist: Michael Casso
Eric Moore

   Bob Pickart, WHOI, co-chief Jeremy Mathis, UAF, co-chief

Objectives: To measure methane and carbon dioxide in the air and water of the Arctic Ocean.

Type of Activity: Sampling;Chukchi-Beaufort-Amundsen Gulf

Information to be derived: Time series data;Samples and chemical analysis;Laboratory sensor data;

Summary: Methane and carbon dioxide in air (3 elevations above the ocean: 16 or 35 feet, 50 feet, and 109 feet) and surface water were measured during transits, transects, and while on CTD / mooring station in the Arctic Ocean. Additionally samples were collected vertically from CTD casts and analyzed for methane. Atmospheric measurements (wind speed, direction, temperature) were made by 3 AirMars mounted at 3 different elevations above the ocean. Temperature, conductivity, dissolved oxygen, salinity, pH, and ORP measurements were made by a YSI water parameter sonde.
