Previous: Masking | Up: Introduction to Gridgen

  1. Make sure you have the latest M_Map, OMVIZ and MexCDF distribution available (you DO need the mexcdf53 gateway and the m-file drivers, but you DO NOT need the toolbox), and that you are running at least MATLAB version 5.1, not version 5.0.
  2. If present, you may wish to grab the mex files for your platform if they exist. This may save you a lot of time... Right now the following distributions exist.

If you download the source distribution and successfully use gridgen, please contribute the mex files back to me so that others may benefit from your success, especially if you've done so with Solaris version 2.6. I tried this and failed miserably.

Unless you grabbed the source distribution, ignore steps 4 and 5.

  3. Unpack the distribution in a directory of your choosing. A directory called gridgen will be created, with subdirectories mex and test_data.
  4. cd into gridgen/mex and run the m-file "gridgen_mex". This will try to compile the necessary mex files. It will also run the scripts test_mexrect, test_mexsepeli, and test_mexinside. If they fail, most likely your compiler options are wrong. Check the Digital Unix options and try to make sure that your options are comparable.

Linux users, DO NOT try to compile the mex-files unless you have a lot of time on your hands and enjoy a challenge!! Compiling the mexlx files was very non-trivial.

  5. From the unix prompt, move the mex files into the gridgen directory.
  6. Remember to add gridgen to your matlab path!
