Anderson Sediment Trap

Sediment traps of various sizes are used to collect sediment as it falls through the water column. This type collects all the sediment in a tube located inside a PVC pipe under the funnel. The tube is removed and sectioned. The bottom image shows the internal tube with its sediment. A clear tube inside the trap catches the sediment. Layers are visible in this image. The contents are sectioned, sampled and analyzed similarly to cores taken of the ocean bottom. back to index
