On February 14, 2003, Bronze Medalist John Carlos visited
with us and gave a talk about his life and experience in the
1968 Olympics. The annual Harambee took place on February
27. Activities at the Harambee included live music by Jack
Leyden, Tony Bailey and Erica Lewis, storytelling by Vird
Williams and a display by local poet, writer and artist Vasco
Pires.
In addition, George Spivey, Equity/Affirmative Action Officer
for the Town of Falmouth, gave a talk entitled "The Souls
of Black Folk: Poetry and Song, from the 1700s to the Present."
On February 27, Ambrose Jearld, Jr. moderated a roundtable
discussion in honor of the 25th anniversary of Black History
Month celebrations in Woods Hole.
