USGS Sediment Studies in Lake Mead

Core samples of the lake floor sediment are used to ground truth the lake floor mapping component of the study. Cores also help scientists understand the processes of sediment transport and deposition. A sampling cruise is schedueled for April 2002. Staff from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas geology department will collect these samples. Then, sample analyses will be completed during summer and fall 2002.
