The distribution of many contaminants in surface
sediments and sediment cores has been measured to determine the sediment
quality and dynamics of Long Island Sound. Surface sediments from more
than 200 locations and cores from 56 locations were analyzed for contaminants
and sediment properties. Link to Contaminants
Sampling for more information.

Data for Clostridium
perfringens, a bacterial tracer of sewage, for trace element (Silver,
Barium, Cadmium, Chromium, Copper, Mercury, Nickel Lead, Vanadium, Zinc,
and Zirconium), and for major element (Aluminum, Iron, Manganese, Calcium,
and Titanium) composition are presented in a series of reports that are
or will be made available through this site. Sediment properties such as
grain size, density, water content, and sedimentation rates are also available
for selected samples. |

sample collected near the mouth of the Housatonic River that shows interbedded
sand (light) and mud (dark) layers.
