Relative Coastal Change Potential for Apostle Islands National Lakeshore. The colored shoreline represents the relative change potential index (CPI) determined from six variables. The very high change potential shoreline is located along sandy stretches of coast where regional coastal slope change potential is high and significant wave heights are highest. The low change potential shoreline is located along bluffs where wave heights are low.

The Coastal Change PotentialIndex (CPI) provides insight into the relative potential of coastal change due to future lake-level change. The maps and data presented here can be viewed in at least two ways: 1) as an indication of where physical changes are most likely to occur as lake levels change; and 2) as a planning tool for Apostle Islands National Lakeshore.
