While USGS science has been a significant factor in understanding coastal and wetland processes important in coastal Louisiana, there is not yet a restoration science support structure for the planned barrier island and wetlands restoration program. This short coming is especially critical as the state and federal government join together in the Coast 2050 restoration program.
To work with the state and federal agencies involved in coastal restoration activities in Louisiana to build support for a strong science program and to develop recommendations for the scope and role of that program.

To establish a formal relationship between the USGS, state and other federal agencies in developing a USGS-wide science plan and program for restoration science.
The goal would be to have an organized science program as a recognized and formal part of the Coast 2050- restoration effort.
