This GIS data layer is a component of the U.S Geological Survey, Woods Hole Science Center's, Gulf of Mexico GIS database. The Gulf of Mexico GIS database is intended to organize and display USGS held data and provide on-line (WWW) access to the data and/or metadata.
<purpose>This GIS data layer contains a summary of the locations, depths, and lengths of the cores collected aboard the R/V GYRE cruise from 5-25 April 1997 (USGS, Woods Hole Field Activity 97006). The cores were collected from the Louisiana Continental Slope in the Gulf of Mexico along a feature known as Bryant Canyon. 38 cores were collected using either a piston or gravity corer, and cores ranged form 345-470 cm in length. Some of the results have been published by Twichell et al. (2000).</purpose>
