Data was collected by Seabird Seacat instruments moored 5 m below the sea surface and 10 m above the sea floor.
USGS tripod systems recorded conductivity and temperature 1 m above the sea floor, from which salinity was computed using the Practical Salinity Scale. Tripod conductivity cells were subject to data degradation because of insufficient water flow through the cells. This resulted in an erroneous decrease in salinity during the course of early deployments. A change in the orientation of the cell, and the addition of a pump, have ameliorated this problem.
