Relative Coastal Vulnerability for National Park of American Samoa. The colored shoreline represents the relative coastal vulnerability index (CVI) determined from six variables.  The very high vulnerability shoreline is located along unconsolidated segments of shoreline, within embayments, and where wide fringing reef is present. High vulnerability shoreline is present on Ta’u and along the north coast of Ofu and Olesega where narrow fringing reef is present. Low vulnerability shoreline is primarily located along rock cliff coastline where coral is absent.

The Coastal Vulnerability Index (CVI) provides insight into the relative potential of coastal change due to future sea-level rise. The maps and data presented here can be viewed in at least two ways: 1) as an indication of where physical changes are most likely to occur as sea-level rises; and 2) as a planning tool for National Park of American Samoa.
